ALGORITHM OF REHABILITATION INTERVENTION FOR WOMEN SICK OF OVARIAN CANCER (LITERATURE REVIEW)

Abstract

Actuality. Ovarian cancer, known as the “silent killer”, is the most damaging of all gynecological cancers. Treatment options for gynecologic cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation/brachytherapy, hormone therapy, and/or targeted therapy. Women with ovarian cancer can experience unpleasant physical and psychological effects as a result of cancer treatment, which is why patients can lead a sedentary lifestyle during and after treatment, which can impair their quality of life. Therefore, physical activity can improve cardiopulmonary fitness, muscle strength, aerobic capacity, fatigue, and quality of life in women with ovarian cancer. The purpose of the work is to analyze and summarize data from literary sources regarding the impact of physical therapy on the survival and quality of life of women with ovarian cancer. Research materials and methods. Two databases were examined for literature review: PubMed and Google Scholar. Articles published in English were included that investigated the condition and methods of correction of the physical and mental condition of women after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Research results and their discussion. Evidence from the current literature highlights the benefits of exercise for many patient-centered outcomes, including physical functioning, physical activity levels, fatigue, weight loss, and survival in gynecologic cancer survivors. This is critical for healthcare professionals, including surgeons, oncologists, oncology nurses and physical therapists, to identify periods of low physical activity throughout the disease to refer to a physical therapy program or provide appropriate interventions tailored to the characteristics, capabilities, needs and preferences of individuals patients In addition, at the time of diagnosis, health care providers should emphasize the need for continued regular exercise throughout life, as inactivity is significantly associated with mortality. Conclusions. Physical therapy improves the quality of life and survival of women with ovarian cancer. Exercise has been proven to be safe and effective with no side effects. In addition, exercise improves cancer symptoms, reduces fatigue, sleep quality, and symptoms of depression. Further research is needed for more detailed and individualized recommendations regarding exercise, amount of time spent exercising, and location (at home or in a specialized center). It is also necessary to take into account in research which specialist conducts medical training of sick women.
