Topicality. This material is prepared within the framework of research into the issues of sports traumatism, its causes, characteristics, and prevention prospects. The focus on this issue is based on the premise that high-performance sport is a source of professional risks, which necessitates a detailed, individualized study of the causes and pathogenesis of athletic injuries.
The goal of the work is to analyze the structure and evaluate the epidemiological indicators of injuries among professional athletes based on data from 2020–2025.
Materials and methods. The research methodology is determined by its theoretical nature, with the selection of methods dictated by the study's objective. The primary subjects of analysis are statistical data regarding injuries in professional sports.
Research results. The study confirms that there are currently established approaches to interpreting the concepts of "sports traumatism" and "sports injury." The expert community continues to acknowledge the presence of risk factors in professional sports that can negatively affect specific organs and systems of the athletes' bodies. The author synthesizes statistical arguments regarding the controversial nature of sports, in the sense that it combines beneficial aspects with certain risks to the health and lifestyle of athletes. Using current statistical data, the paper asserts that sports traumatism is a global problem affecting millions of people worldwide both professional athletes and amateurs. It is shown that the main causes of sports injuries are technical errors, cumulative fatigue, and the inconsistency of training loads with the athletes' level of preparation. It has been established that, typically across different countries, the three most common injury locations among athletes are the knee, the lumbar spine and lower back, and the shoulder and clavicle.
Conclusions. The study concludes that the stability of injury rates indicates the priority of systematic education in safety culture and the individual responsibility of athletes –both professionals and amateurs – for their own health and athletic form.
